He was initially of the fourth estate of the realm. But he had probably had a clear vision of the future hence his quitting Hints Magazine for an active role behind the scene. Today, not only has Reginald Ebere become a force to be reckoned with in the Nigerian movie industry, the graduate of Theatre Arts from the University of Jos Nigeria, launched the career of Kate Henshaw-Nuttall, Bob Manuel-Udokwu, and Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde. Even with the fact that Venom of Justice and When The Sun Sets were the flicks Reginald needed to announce his entrance into the make believe world, the two movies turned out to be the very big hits when released. Although, the highly respected director cum scriptwriter is said to have found solace serving in the Lord’s vineyard, Reginald still holds sway in the game that fetched him fame. Lack of professionalism, limited access to quality funding, lack of power and right distribution channels for finished works, are some of the challenges that are rocking the life of a typical Nigerian filmmaker. These notwithstanding, the father of three has managed to keep his head up in the Nigerian movie industry. About his most challenging project as a director, he said: “That was Scars of Womanhood. I was very young and was producing the movie with my partner. I had a plethora of intimidating stars like the late Sam Loco Efe, Christy Essien Igbokwe, in what must have been her only movie, Justus Esiri, Kate Henshaw, Jude Orhora, Francis Duru, among others. The job was also highly technical and I set a very high bar for myself. I thank God it all came out well.” With a degree in Theater Arts and over 50 movies to his credit as a filmmaker, Reginald could never imagine doing other things than making movies. “This is what I studied in the university and it is what I’m doing for a living, though, I can also paint very well, I have managed to sing, been a journalist and a waka-pass actor, he disclosed. Among Reginald’s popular flicks are Holy Family, Good News, Peace Talk, Falling Apart, Dear Sister, Sinners Are losers, Passionate Soul and host of others.
